Meet Karl Kling
Karl Kling writes character-driven mysteries and sports thrillers built around real people, real conversations, and real-world trouble. His stories focus on relatable characters — the kind that remind readers of someone they’ve actually met — and everyday situations that take unexpected, high-stakes turns. Rooted in Michigan and written with a modern cozy edge, Kling’s books blend classic whodunit intrigue with fast-paced, contemporary grit to deliver grounded, page-turning stories that feel familiar… right up until they don’t.
Kling is the author of the Brody James Mystery series, which began with The Boys Are Back in Town (October 2023) and continued with Takin’ Care of Business (January 2025). The third installment, Detroit Rock City, is scheduled for release in early 2026, with an off-shoot novel centered on the fan-favorite character Betsy also in development. He recently released the stand-alone sports thriller Blown Save: A Killer’s Guide to Winning.
A longtime baseball coach, Kling owns and operates a training facility in Howell, Michigan with his wife, Debra, and their three sons. He has coached at both the collegiate and high school levels and currently serves as the Field Director for the Detroit Tigers Summer Youth Camps.
